Main causes of red spots on the skin
To prevent the diseases that cause these rashes from affecting our babies, it is very important to keep their vaccinations up to date. However, as we have said, these spots can be caused by conditions that are not common in children.
In the same way, it is convenient to know what are the diseases that produce those red spots on the skin. Among others, we have the following:
Chickenpox
It usually affects children between the ages of two and ten. It is one of the most common diseases in children. It can also appear in babies and adults but less frequently. It is caused by a virus that is highly contagious.
This virus remains in the body for a long time, which is why it is capable of reappearing. Its symptoms include fever, joint and headaches, as well as red spots on the skin.
Atopic dermatitis
It is among the most common skin conditions in infants and young children. Its most noticeable symptom is the appearance of a rash that causes itching, dryness and peeling. In some cases the small breakouts produce scabs and irritation over large areas of skin.
Rubella
It is also a disease caused by a virus. It is typical in children, among whom it can spread rapidly. In addition to the red spots on the skin, other symptoms such as cough, fever and swollen glands may occur.
Scarlet fever
Unlike other similar diseases, scarlet fever is caused by streptococci, bacteria that affect childhood. It is relatively contagious, mainly transmitted through sneezing and droplets of saliva. The symptoms that are related to this disease are red spots on the skin, fever, sore throat, nausea and rough skin.
Impetigo
This bacterial infection is characterized by a rash that usually ends in blisters. It is spread by contact with the affected person’s skin. The main affected areas are the face, neck, diaper area and hands.
Measles
Like other similar diseases, measles has been almost eradicated by the application of vaccines. For this reason, the cases are less frequent. It is a highly contagious viral disease, but once it is overcome it never reappears.
It can be recognized by the appearance of a rash on the skin that occurs later in the disease. The initial symptoms are similar to those of a cold, which last for about three days.
